Learning - Down on the Farm

Growing up, I always wanted to live "in-town".  Roughly 15 minutes from town located a stones throw from a small Wisconsin lake, I dreamt of walking around town visiting the stores, parks, friends, etc.

As a freshman in high school we moved, I finally was able to realize the dream!  One block from the high school and located on the busiest street in town, I was a teenager in heaven.  Walked to school, came home for lunch, walked to football games, movies, friends, etc.  It was AWESOME!

When I went to college my family moved out of town again, but that was never really my home.

After Jodie and I got married, we bought what we thought was our dream house, located a stones throw from a Wisconsin lake, plenty of yard for the kids to play and to enjoy a campfire, we thought we had hit the jackpot.  Until, I tired of commuting to work 30+ minutes and we both tired of not having access to the internet (it was still limited to dial up) - oh and the neighbors... most of them were retired.

Opportunity struck, we moved to Edgerton and have loved it here.  First an apartment and now a house located centrally within the city, a stones throw from the city pool and a beautiful park and less than a 10 minute walk to all of the schools.  We have been at home, until...

So lately, I have been kind of obsessed.  Since returning from #kwec13 I have been in love with the outdoors: kayaking, animals, etc.  In addition, when I returned I followed a lead that led to my friend who was involved in a project that I never really thought about...until, well, about two weeks ago.  I asked her about this farm project, she shared some of the cool things she was doing, the kids were doing, and other educators were doing and she had me hook, line, and sinker.  I asked her if she could show me the project and we met at the farm.  Since that point, I cannot stop thinking farm, farm animals, farm crops, farm tractors, farm houses, farm, farm, farm, all I see is farm, everyday I be farming...obsessed with farming (ME).

Now, if you know me, I am far from farm.  Well, WAS far from farm.  I want my children to learn from a farm, I want my students to learn from a farm.  Did I mention that this farm has 50 acres of mature woods and over a thousand feet of lake frontage?  I want my kids (all of them) to hike, and notice trees and animals, to kayak, and fish, and notice the water quality.  I want my kids to know where the food they are eating comes from and care about it.

Here's a pic with Bunsy and "THE BIG CORN"

And now, I'm off to buy a truck...
