Slept in 'til 8:20ish, made breakfast for Jodie and the kids.
BIG the movie with Tom Hanks was on TV so we watched the end of that, what a great movie!
Natalie hung out and watched most of the movie with me on the couch while Bunsy was hanging with mom on the other couch, he has a bad cough this morning. Keyta is sleeping still! Diante slept over at a friends house last night and without doubt played video games until the wee hours of the morning.
There is a bit of an emotional hangover today after the Packers' loss last night to the 49ers, but they had a great year and it'll just take a little time to get over the loss.
So, now I find myself working in the basement, surrounded by my Chromebook, Macbook Pro, iPad 3, and iPhone 4s, Pandora is jamming out some Nirvana and Alice In Chains while I get set for the week ahead, prepare my Looking Forward memo and put the final touches on tomorrow's inservice.
Im starting to reminisce a bit, last night we hung out with my best friend and his family to watch the game while the kids had a sleepover watched movies and had popcorn and gummy bears in the basement. Then today, the movie BIG, really gets me thinking of the important things in life. I love my job and am excited to see where we are going, but nothing ever trumps family. I am reminded by my overall goal to empower my kids with a better life than I had. (My life has been awesome by the way so please do not read into that - that I have had a rough life because I havn't) but my Dad has always said that was his goal, to give me a better life than he had and I have always appreciated and admired him for that. He is a hard working man whom has provided me opportunities that he wouldn't have even dreamed of as a kid. I hope that I am doing that for my kids as well. So, as I work to give my kids a better life part of that is a world class education and that is what we are building here in Edgerton. That world class education will help my kids and all of the students and families in Edgerton. Thus, my reasoning for working so much.
Finally, I will close with some hopes: I am really hoping that a few tickets for EduCon in Philly open up this week for me and a few other innovative educators that are hoping to road trip the weekend of January 25th. Also excited for PlayDate2013 with Jennie Magiera on February 9th, EdCampMadWi in Sun Prairie on Feb 23rd, and ASCD in Chicago the weekend of March 16th. I believe events like these help me to become a better educator and a more effective leader. Learn First Teach Second.
Have a great week
Phill
