So, we've moved in with my parents. We have a tenant for November 1st, and our house is almost perfectly ready for a new family to move in.
First, the house. When we bought the house and moved in roughly 5 years ago, it was full. Literally full of stuff. The previous family left the house and their stuff. There was a clawfoot tub and a queen sized mattress growing grass in our back yard. The attic was filled with all things "attic-y" old magazines, a gun, clothes, old toys, etc. The basement was loaded with old toys, tools, nasty wood, and more. Over the last 5 years we have periodically filled the curb with garbage (both ours and those that lived there before us). Tomorrow, the house will be beautifully cleaned and ready for a new life to be lived there. The yard is good, the shed is clean, the deck has been added, the basement has been completely gutted, rec room added, and laundry room improved. The main floor has had all of the nasty wall paper removed, walls painted, a half bath added, the kitchen completely remodeled with beautiful cupboards, and of course the huge wall between the dining room and kitchen removed with a bar counter added. The steps have had the smelly old carpet removed and so has the upstairs hall. In face the entire upstairs had old nasty carpet with padding that reminded me of horsehair. Rooms have all been painted thanks to Mickelson painting, and the attic has been insulated and completely emptied and cleaned. Oh and I almost forgot the new windows, window wraps, siding, and gutter/downspouts that have been added over the past five years. Funny as I type all that I think, wow that's a ton of work and money. The house is far better than it was five years ago! We are excited for the new tenant to enjoy all that has been done.
Yep, now we are living in my parents' house on W Rollin. It is big and beautiful, but living with your parents/inlaws/adult aged children-grandchildren-granddogs. Its been working great and we are so blessed to be welcomed by my parents because it really does make the trip to Kenya easier. Since we have been able to liquify almost all of our things now we can help my parents do the same. Since we have cleaned out our house our tenants will take over Nov 1 thereby saving us one month of rent and utilities (which will come in very handy when we return). So, together we are tackling the next 5 weeks and 3 days. We will continue to sell our stuff on Edgerton Online Garage Sale, store some small things for my parents, give away more stuff to Edgerton Community Outreach, and throw tons of stuff away. We are on our way!
I've heard a few people this week say the same phrase, "It's getting real". That is the truth.
Last night we were at Jodie's 15 year class reunion and were able to talk with a bunch of awesome people that we don't see very much. As they asked about the trip it was exciting to talk about building our own mud home and to think that is only 38 days away!
