Les Mis and Breaking Down a Wall

Wow, what a weekend!

I received text messages from both my mom and my wife on Friday afternoon suggesting a fish fry for dinner.  That was a wonderful idea and worked with my own idea of taking Jodie (my wife) to see the movie Les Miserables.

Les Mis was an excellent movie.  I went to the movie without any prior knowledge other than, "I know its famous".  I apologize to the theater fans out there, especially my friend Lori who is my resident theater expert.  All I can say is that I loved it. I will definitely see that movie and hopefully the live musical in the future.

When we returned home, my dad was watching our kids and had an idea:  "Your Uncle Bruce is coming tomorrow to help us tear out your wall".  Les Mis is a long movie, 2.5 hours, it started at 6:40 so by the time we returned home it was after 9:30 and now my dad wants to tear down the wall we have been talking about for months!  For those of you that know me from school, this week was a crazy one, Wednesday I left the office after 10pm and Thursday was after 9pm... New Year's has brought some exciting things including technology improvements allowing the district to move in the direction of a 1:1 iPad initiative, plus NYE always brings ideas to help improve myself so I have been working on improved communication, a better behavior/discipline plan at school, and working to minimize the number of days our school invests in MAP testing by maximizing staff and computers.  So, at 9:30pm on Friday night after a long week of work, the last thing I wanted to hear was that my uncle was coming over to tear out a wall in my house.

My Dad and Uncle are phenomenal people, they have so many great stories together and are both very talented.  So, if they were coming over in the morning, I had to be ready to maximize their time...so much for sleeping in.  I was up at 7, made pancakes and sausage and started cleaning by 8, they were coming at 9.  We had the dining room and kitchen ready for them by 9, Jodie and the kids went to Grandma's, Keyta stayed to help and Diante was at wrestling.  11 hours later the bulk of the work was done (cleaning remained) and my Uncle was on his way...

Today was spent cleaning and preparing for MAP tests and staff meeting tomorrow, and trainings later in the week.  I love my life, I wouldn't have it any other way.  Not that they will read this as I doubt either of them know what a blog is, but a huge thank you to my Dad and Uncle for the ridiculous amount of work they did yesterday and all of the knowledge they shared with me...the guy who cannot fix anything.

One final thought, as I was pulling nails out of 100 year old studs, my Uncle looked at me and asked if computers were this hard, I laughed and said not even close.  He said, that's the way it is, everyone has their strengths.

Have a great week,
Phill
